On 7/20/2018 at about 2250 hours Fort Jones Fire Department, Cal Fire and Siskiyou County Sheriff's Search and Rescue were dispatched to Paynes Lake in the Russian Wilderness of the Klamath National Forest for an injured Hiker who suffered a head injury. Rescuers Reached the injured hiker at about 0300 hours located an adequate location to land a helicopter and later moved the victim to the landing zone. An air medical copter was dispatched and due to turbulence in the area could not land at our designated landing zone. At about 0740 hours CHP Copter H16 was able to land remove the victim and transport them to a nearby landing zone where Reach Medical Helicopter transported the stable victim to a North State Hospital. Great job to all involved. Total elevation gain while hiking in over 2,500 feet.
